The 2010 FIFA World Cup is almost down to its round of 16, and if you haven't already started watching your daily games, there's still plenty of time - and even more places to watch them. Some additional favorite suggestions are:
Atlanta: Fado Irish Pub isn't messing around when it comes to the World Cup - it's showing all 64 matches live, which means it's open bright and early, ready to serve you a breakfast sandwich with coffee...and a Grey Goose Bloody Mary, if so you require. It's also making things more interesting with its 2010 Fantasy Football game, which you can enter at any time. Stay at: The St. Regis Atlanta.
Auckland: Promising to show all the games "live & loud" on six big screens, Fox's Ale House also wants you to know "we ARE the home of sport." Indeed. It's apparently also a great spot should you want to enjoy a "cheeky pint." Hard to say no to that. Better still, the bar is located on the waterfront, and dishes up great views of the harbor, should you team be forcing you to look away from the screen. Stay at: The Westin Auckland Lighter Quay, (pictured).
Paris: The Frog & Rosbif goes beyond showing all the matches live - it dishes up a little friendly competition among viewers. Guess the match's score and you could win a jug of beer. Yep, jug: The funky English-style pub brews six house beers in its cellar - try a pint of the Belgian-style Maison Blanche (or a jug, should you be so lucky). Stay at: Le Méridien Etoile.
Rio de Janeiro: This five-time World Cup winner knows how to party, and the place to get in on the action is the one and only Copacabana beach. It figures that a place that's also home to the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup is serious about its soccer viewing, and judging from the 10,000 people who crowded on to Copacabana Beach to watch Brazil's opener, this is the place to be. Stay at: Sheraton Rio Hotel and Resort.
Seattle: This West Coast city is offering what is undoubtedly one of the neatest and most unusual ways to watch the World Cup: in an alley. The International Sustainability Institute, which has worked with Seattle to green up its alleys, is hosting a live screening of one match each day at 11:30am - on a 100-inch screen. Stay at: The Westin Seattle.
Venice: Watching the big game doesn't have to be a big production - why traipse around Venice looking for a place to catch the match when you can watch in the comforts of a luxury hotel bar? Tiziano Foyer, at the Hotel Gritti Palace, and Bar Dandolo at the Hotel Danieli, are offering a special €22 package during the 1:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. period they're broadcasting the Cup, which gets you a good seat, one drink, and a light snack. Bar Tiepolo at The Westin Europa & Regina is also broadcasting the games.
