The upscale Dallas suburb of Irving is one of the most colorful and vibrant areas in town, with a bustling business community and plenty of great shops and restaurants. And now it has a hotel that truly meets the needs of today's traveler, the aloft Las Colinas. The aloft concept is a refreshing break from tradition, with airy public spaces designed to help you take care of business while connecting with others, and comfortable, well-appointed guest rooms that have everything you need to be at your best. As an added incentive to check out this new property, Starwood has several special offers, including the Grand Opening package, which features a $79 weekend rate, $149 weekday rate, and a $10 munchie credit that can be used at w xyz bar, or to re:fuel. The hotel is just minutes from downtown Dallas, but before you leave Irving, take a look at the Mustangs at Las Colinas, a bronze sculpture by Robert Glen that's said to be the largest equestrian sculpture in the world. I guess it's true, everything's bigger in Texas.

Be Prepared At Texas' National Scouting Museum
Friday April 4, 2008
I have a confession to make. There's a skirt in my closet that's the perfect shade of green, has a really cute box pleat in the front, and a waist which has lost all of its elasticity from being stretched to its limits time and time again. It's part of my old Girl Scout uniform, and I still wear it. Often. Those of you who also hang on to these happy remnants from youth, a badge encrusted sash, a tattered handbook, or even just memories, like the first time you pitched a tent in the wilderness, or identified that set of tracks in the snow, will enjoy visiting the National Scouting Museum, in Irving, Texas. In addition to a knot-tying wall, a virtual reality bike and kayak racing mountain, and an exhibit on famous Boy Scouts like Neil Armstrong and Michael Jordon, the museum is home to dozens of works of art including many by Norman Rockwell. The American artist, famous for his Saturday Evening Post covers, illustrated several covers for the Brown and Bigelow Boy Scouts calendar, and worked as art director for the Boy Scouts' magazine, Boys' Life, between 1913 and 1916.
Come November, the brand new element Irving will be the perfect home base on a trip to the area. Nineteen minutes from the airport, and just five minutes from the National Scouting Museum, the eco-conscious hotel will feature public spaces inspired by nature, and a swimming pool. So if you were never quite able to earn that swimming badge, here's your chance to get a little practice in.
