Shark%20Slam%20200.jpgThere's nothing like swimming, floating, and splashing around in water to get your mind into a happy space, and there are few better places to do that than the CoCo Key Water Resorts. Conveniently located in Sheraton hotels in Chicago, Kansas City, Cincinnati, and Danvers, Massachusetts, they're a great way to enjoy an amazing indoor collection of pools, water slides, and recreation areas during the day and then have some sweet sleep in a Sheraton Sweet Sleeper Bed at night. If that sounds interesting, here's a little extra enticement to visit: through December 31, 2008, stays at participating Sheraton hotels come with four passes to CoCo Key Indoor Water Resort, so you're guaranteed a hassle-free escape into a watery paradise and a relaxing evening to follow. The Sheraton Chicago Northwest, the Sheraton Ferncroft Hotel, the Sheraton Cincinnati North Hotel, and the Sheraton Kansas City Sports Complex Hotel all await you with comfortable furnishings, the latest amenities, fine restaurants, and, oh yeah, indoor water parks with features like the Barracuda Blast two-person raft slide, Adventure River, and a Palm Grotto spa. It's wet and wild fun for the family. Click here to plan your aquatic adventure, or call 1-866-716-8103 and mention promotion code WPK.

Cincinnati and its Chili

Wednesday April 2, 2008

One of the treats of travel is tasting the local specialties, and in Cincinnati, that means chili. Not your typical chili, though — in Cincy it's more of a sweetish, meaty sauce served over spaghetti, topped with a mountain of shredded cheddar cheese. Actually, that's just "three-way" chili. Add chopped onions and you have four-way, and kidney beans make it five-way. (There's no official six-way, but you'll occasionally find it.) Oh, and served with oyster crackers. Sound good? It is. Sound a little weird? It's that, too — but definitely worth trying.

Where's the best place to try it while staying at the Westin? Well, there are two highly competitive chains specializing in the stuff: Skyline and Gold Star. Across the Ohio River in Covington, Kentucky, is Dixie Chili, a smaller chain. For Cincy chili newbies, my recommendation is to try a small three-way or possibly a "cheesy coney" hot dog . If you decide you like it, try a local favorite like Price Hill Chili and go all the way to five.

Starpick the Westin Cincinnati

Thursday January 24, 2008

Westin%20Cincinnati%20200.jpgIf the only thing you know about Cincinnati, Ohio is the theme song to WKRP in Cincinnati, here are a few random facts, just in case the need arises. Cincinnati was founded in 1788 and experienced rapid growth throughout the 1800's, garnering a reputation as the first true boomtown in America. It is situated on the northern bank of the Ohio River, just across from Newport, Kentucky. Cincinnati and Newport are connected by six bridges, including the pedestrian-only Purple People Bridge, which is a great way for Cincinnatians (as they're known) to venture across the river to Newport on the Levee, a complex of shops, restaurants, theaters, and an aquarium. Cincinnati itself has a wealth of cultural offerings for the curious traveler, of course, ranging from the Great American Ball Park and Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden to the Cincinnati Art Museum and the Aronoff Center for the Arts. As it happens, Cincinnati is also the home of the
Westin Cincinnati
, which is one of this week's participating Starpicks properties. With last-minute rates of at least 20% off regular rates for stays during the next two weekends, an impulsive getaway to this exciting city will be just the thing to exponentially increase your Cincinnati I.Q. and have a great time doing it. The Westin Cincinnati is just one of many Starpicks properties this week, so if you feel like you know everything there is to know about the Queen City, peruse the list and find the destination that feels just right for right now.
