The Four Points by Sheraton Shenzhen is well-placed to enjoy all of this rapidly growing city's offerings - and for trips down to Hong Kong, where even more wonders await. But that's another post. Let's talk about some of the foods that are best right there in Shenzhen.
Since this is coastal country, seafood figures prominently in local cuisine. Abalone from Na'Nao Bay, Xixiang shrimp and Shajing oysters are key ingredients to look for, and the aptly named Seafood Street food district is a good place to find it. Look for the stalls with the longest lines (a sign of quality) and pick what looks best.
Roast goose is a popular non-seafood option in the region: slow roasted, with crispy skin and juicy, well-spiced meat. Some of the best can be had at Fat Girl's Roast Meat Restaurant.
One important tip: Shenzhen's water's purity can be unreliable, so be sure to pick up bottled water at the hotel or a store. And keep your eye out for Kingway Beer, brewed right there in the city and known as China's green beer" for its lack of chemicals such as formaldahyde.
