Did you know that there is a significant collection of surrealist master Salvador Dalí's artwork outside of Spain? London's Dalí Universe packs nearly 500 incredible pieces into a compact space. It's hard to pick favorites in this very special collection, but Dalí's dreamy and literally eye-opening work for the famed Alfred Hitchcock film Spellbound (1945) is an easy choice. You'll also find those images that come most quickly to mind when thinking about the handlebar mustachio'd genius: The bright Lobster Telephone, the saucy Mae West Lips Sofa, and many incarnations of the Melted Clock.
The museum honors those who continue to pay vibrant homage to the man, the myth, the legend long after his passing; a special exhibition of fashion pieces inspired by the artist and crafted by clothiers such as Julien McDonald, Allegra Hicks, Graeme Black, Modernist, and Anouska Hempel runs through the end of the year. And despite the singularly-focused name, Dalí Universe is also a veritable place of worship for another great Spanish artist from the Twentieth Century: Pablo Picasso. Stay at the Sheraton Park Tower for a convenient home base from these surreal wonders, not to mention the many attractions that line London's South Bank. Retrace the Queen's wobbly steps as you walk across the nearby Millennium Bridge. Or if you want to really go panoramic, the world-famous London Eye, a gigantic, glass-enclosed Ferris wheel from which the city is your visual playground, is directly across the street from Dalí Universe.
