Everybody enjoys springtime, but it's especially meaningful up in Canada, where the advent of warm weather is cause for serious celebration. Such is the case in Vancouver, which hosts one of the largest children's festivals in the world every May. The Vancouver International Children's Festival through May 18th ignites the imaginations of more than 50,000 youngsters every year with storytelling, circus arts, music, theater, dance, and more. This thirty-year tradition in Vanier Park features a free outdoor stage, roving entertainers, and interactive exhibits where kids can try on costumes, create works of art, and learn to sing and dance. In a nod to local traditions, a Squamish totem pole carver named Klatle-Bhi will be on hand with samples of his work, explaining the meaning of the various figures and showing kids how to create their own totem bookmarks. The Port Metro Vancouver exhibit, meanwhile, educates the youngsters in the comings and goings of the city's bustling port with a visit from "Salty," along with maritime activities like the Cargo Hockey Challenge. It always comes back to hockey, doesn't it? Guests at the nearby Westin Grand, Vancouver or any of Starwood's Vancouver-area properties might enjoy this unique festival dedicated to the wonder of youth.
