Birmingham Fiesta 200.jpgFor generations, the American South has been shaped by a never-ending influx of different immigrant groups, creating the eclectic mix of cultures that's evident today. On Saturday, October 18, 2008, the city of Birmingham will celebrate the contributions of its Latin American residents at the Birmingham Fiesta 2008. Now in its sixth year, the fiesta brings together more than 20,000 patrons who come to learn about Hispanic culture and enjoy music, dance, and food from countries as varied as Mexico, Cuba, and Guatemala. The festival will be comprised of several different themed villas, including the Main Music Stage (get ready to salsa), the Arts Village (with everything from Aztec calendars to balloon sculptures), and the Storytelling Village, focusing on the interactive art of storytelling in two languages. Naturally, the Multi-Cultural Food Village is one of the most popular parts of the festival, with an eclectic range of cuisine that goes far beyond beans and rice. The Sheraton Birmingham Hotel is a short walk from the festival.
