Guests at Le Méridien Limassol Spa & Resort in Cyprus don't have to wander far to feel completely transformed. Just one kilometer from the hotel lies the ancient city of Amathus, home of the Cult of Aphrodite, among many other things. Granted, the cult hasn't been active for well over a thousand years or so, but Amathus is still a powerful place to stroll through, with columns, buildings, amphitheaters, and various other structures that have stood since the city was founded - according to legend - by a son of Hercules. Located right on the water in the Agios Tychonas area, it's not very difficult to imagine yourself in another time entirely, surrounded by robe-clad merchants and scholars, and gathering to watch the Adonis games, in which fit young men would hunt wild boars and perform various tests of speed, strength, and courage. Life today seems somewhat easier, but you still might get sore legs from walking around the ruins all day, so consider treating yourself to a spa treatment at the resort's Le Spa. It's the only indoor and outdoor thalassotherapy spa in Europe, with mosaic-tiled seawater pools, soothing waterfalls, and alluring passageways. The past is fascinating, but the modern world has its charms too.
