Chicago is known for having pretty brutal winters, but that just makes the warm-weather season all the more festive. This year, Chicago officially welcomes spring with the Lakeview Mayfest, which is celebrated May 16-18 on North Ashland Avenue. The festival has pretty much everything you're looking for in a springtime extravaganza as well as a few things you might not expect. Look out for all kinds of performing artists and live music under a big top tent, great food, cold beer, and that warm and welcoming Chicago spirit. Local artisans turn out by the dozens to show their finest wares, and there's even a Pet Parade and Contest, where Fido gets dressed up and competes in categories like "Best Looking," "Largest," and "Owner Look-Alike." That last one sounds hilarious. Guests at the nearby Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers or any of Starwood's Windy City properties might enjoy this formal welcome to a season of sun and fun.
