As a cub scout leader to my two sons, I always try to “Be Prepared” for anything. On a recent trip with my pregnant wife, I learned I was woefully unprepared. I thought I was on “top of my game.” I had all the contact numbers for her doctors, the nearest hospital, numbers of the family in the area, my camera, cellphone, blackberry were fully charged and I packed the little protein bars she likes to nosh on in between meals. I really really thought I was ready. But I wasn’t. I took for granted that we were staying in a hotel known for the comfort of their beds. So I didn’t think my wife would be uncomfortable at all in the bed. She is in her final trimester and with the baby moving around in the womb as well as the pressure on her back and bladder, my wife barely sleeps at all at night. So when she gets into bed she wants to be super comfortable. At home, we have an arrangement of pillows in different sizes from a small hot-dog shaped to a full body pillow that are strategically positioned to give my wife maximum support to her back, belly, as well as her head. Therefore, I was not prepared when we got into the bed she would be uncomfortable with the pretty much one sized pillows even though they were very fluffy! My wife is a sport and she made due (pardon the pun), but this was a lesson to me that next-time, I will add to our traveling checklist to make a special pillow request.
