The one and only Montreal High Lights Festival will take place from February 21 to March 2, 2008, bringing plenty of great art, music, and food to this gem of a city up north. To get into the spirit fast, drop by the Hydro-Quebec Celebration of Light, which features free family activities such as ice skating, an ice slide, fireworks displays, a torchlight procession, and even a "silent dance party." The Sun Life Financial Performing Arts Program, meanwhile, will showcase some amazing flamenco dancers and music from such acts as Australia's Spaghetti Western Orchestra, bilingual Latin jazz artist Claudia Acuña, and American jazz master Bobby McFerrin. Of course, some might argue that the festival is really all about the food, and the Air France Wine and Dine Experience will have plenty of that, with various inventive takes on Chilean cuisine, this year's featured style of cooking. Famed Toronto chef Susur Lee will be the honorary president, and he'll be joined by 14 seasoned chefs in giving lectures on food and preparing delectable dishes. All that tasty food requires a range of wine that can stand up to it, of course, so producers from a dozen Chilean wineries will be on hand for pairings and tastings of the country's finest bottles. Sounds like my kind of festival. Starwood has six properties in Montreal, including the stylish W Montréal just minutes away.
