A recent Homefront Magazine article focused on green-thinking hotel initiatives and mentioned a number of Starwood properties. Did you know that over 70% of the guests at the Sheraton Centre in Toronto keep their same linens for at least 2 days? As part of the "You Make the Choice" program, you decide if your linens should stay or go every day. Other hotel-specific green choices at this Sheraton include blue box recycling, compositing, and of course, energy and HVAC conservation. It's also great to know too that all retired linens are recycled via local shelters and the Toronto Humane Society...Meanwhile, in the US, the Westin San Francisco Airport has addressed the issue of greenhouse gas emissions by purchasing a fuel cell electric power plant. The unit generates 500 Kw of green energy as it converts fuel into hydrogen, hot water and electricity. Plus the surplus heat from it provides 40% of the hotel's hot water and heating for the swimming pool. Check back at this space for more green news and happenings from Starwood.
