Kids are happiest when they're given the chance to express themselves creatively, which is why the Kaleidoscope children's art center in Kansas City is such a great idea. Located in Hallmark's Crown Center (along with the Westin Crown Center, Kansas City), Kaleidoscope is an art studio that provides kids with the space, materials, and guidance they need to unleash their imaginations in a variety of media. True to its name, budding artists will find a kaleidoscope of art supplies, including melted crayons, polka dots of all sizes, shooting stars, cardboard, shiny paper, and ribbons, to name just a few. The studio itself is designed to help kids and their parents get in touch with their creative sides. One room features a tall mural of a shimmering cityscape, while another simulates an undersea world best viewed through the safety of the submarine (pictured). A third area represents the vastness of outer space, and features an illuminated, interactive "space machine." To help everyone get started, the center offers 40-minute family art sessions for children of all ages and their adults, as well as special independent art sessions for kids ages five to twelve. Kaleidoscope is completely free, and many of the materials are recycled items from the Hallmark greeting card company, which provides Kaleidoscope as a way to get kids interested in art.
