Albuquerque has been increasingly popping up on various must-see lists, boasting a vibrant arts and cultural scene as well as great shopping and restaurant options. The Baltimore Sun points out that this southwestern gem now rivals its more glamorous sister city, Santa Fe, as a New Mexico tourist destination. One of the oldest buildings in Albuquerque's Old Town is the San Felipe de Neri Church. Dating back to 1793, mass is still celebrated in this adobe Spanish Colonial church. Not far away, the American International Rattlesnake Museum can be found (just follow the rattles). It's not for the timid: inside you'll find 31 species of live rattlesnakes, safely behind glass, of course, along with scorpions, tarantulas, and a gila monster. For a slightly less wild experience, drop by the Turquoise Museum to see some of the finest natural turquoise jewelry and art available anywhere. The 1927 KiMo Theatre (pictured), located in the downtown area, is an example of Pueblo Deco architecture, which melds Art Deco with Native American styles. The theater is a vital part of the arts scene here, hosting dance, drama, comedy, film, and musical events. Guests at the Sheraton Albuquerque Uptown might enjoy a show at the KiMo followed by dinner at the hotel's southwestern restaurant, the Classic Grille.
