New York's best kept sports secret is the Friday Night Fights boxing night in the basement of St. Paul the Apostle church on the Upper West Side. The New York Times reported on the scene at the amateur boxing matches, where hipsters, blue collar workers and boxing fans of all sorts go for both the cheap ticket price ($25 in advance) and $4 Singha beers. The nights are the brainchild of Justin Blair, owner of the Church Street Boxing Gym, who rents out venues across the city to help develop the city's homegrown boxing scene. The church is just a short walk away from the Sheraton New York.
