Hawaii just passed one of the toughest non-smoking laws in the United States. This past November, the Smoke-Free Hawaii Law went into effectbanning smoking in restaurants, bars and places of business and in doorways. An article in the Mainichi Daily News addressed the smoking ban from a Japanese perspective, comparing Japan's "smoker's paradise" to Hawaii, where smoking is now impossible at beachside bars or one the way from the pool. Of course, Westin has been smoke free for a long timebut this law, one of the strictest in the nation, will make virtually all hotels in Hawaii smoke-free.
