Lake Tahoe, located on the border of California and Nevada in the Sierra Nevada mountain range, is well-known as a strikingly beautiful part of the country, and delightful to visit throughout the year. The Miami Herald offers a helpful guide to make the most of your time there. Lake Tahoe is one of the largest, deepest, and highest freshwater lakes in the country, and for that reason alone a trip to the beach is mandatory. Zephyr Cove beach attracts a young crowd and boasts a marina, restaurant, and a variety of lake cruises, including sunset cruises on multi-deck paddlewheeler boats. Meek's Bay, on the other hand, is a bit more mature and mellow. Either way, be prepared for some shivering, as water temperatures in the lake rarely exceed 70 degrees. After you've had a bit of activity in or on the lake, you'll need some sustenance. A burger and a beer at The Bridgetender Tavern and Grill, with its ample outdoor seating and gorgeous vistas, should set you right, as they say. Lake Tahoe is an easy day trip from Sacramento, where the luxurious Sheraton Grand Sacramento Hotel occupies the beautifully restored Public Market Building.
